3 Nights in Grand Cayman: part 4 Morritts Tortuga

3 Nights in Grand Cayman: part 4 Morritts Tortuga

We arrived at the Morritts property on friday around 5 o’clock. Our concierge wasn’t available and we soon found out she wouldn’t be till monday (when we left). As you will read, we discovered quickly that Saturday and Sunday are somewhat turn around days for visitors. Not a lot of just weekend trips.

The night time desk guy checked us in and gave us the low down about the weekend and our concierge. Even after we told him we left on Monday at 9 he still followed through with what she could do for us on monday. Which Shauna promptly responded with when we leave. We decided to ask him some questions since the concierge wouldn’t be available for us at all, but he was rather short with us. Like we we’re asking questions we should already have the answers to. It was rather annoying actually but I took it as him being and ass and chose to not let it reflect on the rest of the staff there.

With room key in hand we bounced to our room. It was a nice, your typical Time share whicker-ish furniture with bright colored seating. The view though ugh amazing beach. It was around dusk so we took in the colors of the setting sun and prepared to go have some dinner. Morritts has 2 dining establishments. Ivan’s and David’s we chose to eat at David’s both time we did dinner, well actually thats the only place we ate ( two dinners and a breakfast ) besides the few groceries we got from the store across the street. Let me say this first the bill was pricey for 2 people ( a salad, bread, 2 dinners and 2 drinks) but, the food was outstanding. Shauna had the surf and turf and was madly in love with it. I went jerk chicken just to see if it was different from the jerk in Jamaica. It was so good. Not better than Jamaica but alot of food and very very delicious.  Dinner was great for the both of us so we decided to go back to the room and hit the pool.

Morritt’s had 3 pools a large infinity pool with swim up bar, a smaller pool with a on deck bar and another pool with no bar. The 3rd one was the closest so we hit that. We figured it was night and it was quiet and we’d find the other pools sunday. The water was so warm and the air was very breezy. We spent about 30 minutes then headed to our room for some post travel relax time. Tomorrow was the quest for Sting Ray City.

Saturday we spent limited day time at Morritts and pretty much had a quiet night time in our room, but in the morning we had to find a way to SRC. As per direction of the night guy and the nice ladies behind the front desk that morning we went over to the Dive shop to see if they had anything for us to do in the realm of tours. As you know if you’ve read the other post (1-3) their tours only went out Tuesdays and Thursdays. Needless to say no help. We went back to the front desk and after a little cajoling and the right questions we found out that there ” public bus system” was about 5 dollars US a person to Georgetown and we might be able to secure a tour there. See 3 Nights in Grand Cayman: part 2 the quest for Sting Ray City.

Saturday night we just came back to Morritts and chilled out in the room. It was a long day on the water and rest seemed a good idea.

Sunday we jumped up and decided to head down to the b each for some sun and snorkeling fun. I can’t speak for 7 mile Beach over on the west end of the island, but if you are gonna go in the water near Morritts unless you have strong feet (you know like a Nigerian barefoot olympic runner) invest in some water socks. Unlike beaches here in FL right as you get in the water its rocky and hard to find great footing barefoot. However it does allow for some great snorkeling right there. We played in the water a bit and then headed in for some sun and relaxation. After Shauna had her fill of the sun we adjourned to the BIG infinity pool and swim up bar.

The bartender Martin I do believe mad us some great Pina Coladas, well mine was a Cayman Colada and we relaxed in the pool for probably and hour. The water was so nice and the scene was just so relaxing. We had 2 more drinks before we headed out. The weather seemed to be getting bad and we around us and we thought it was a good cue to head in. On a side note, there was this lady who thought the main pool with all the kids and people relaxing would be a great place to do pool aerobics. Seriously? She looked stoooopid doing it and I’m sure everyone having to move around her was at least a bit annoyed.

For the night we had one more great meal at David’s and great service. They were a bit slow with our service so they gave us a complimentary glass of white wine. They [Morritts] has a great over the water bar, so we decided to have a night cap before we turned in for the night. It was very windy and the weather seemed to be getting worse. We had one drink a piece there ( which by the way sucked, I mean I like strong drinks but this was bad) and then headed out of the wind and drizzle to our room.

Shauna turned in after a while and I sat up enjoying the stormy weather on our balcony. Well one more morning and off to the airport. I think we [ Shauna and I] can both agree that the trip was rather brief, but it was still very very exciting and adventurous. We’d do it again but I think it might take a year of saving to stay longer than 4 days.
